Kadampa Meditation Centre Perth is a not-for-profit organisation whose aim is to create peace and harmony within our world. Our Centre in East Fremantle provides a comfortable and relaxed environment in which everyone, whether Buddhist or non-Buddhist, can discover the benefits of meditation and modern Buddhism for themselves. Everyone is welcome.

Our Story

Kadampa Meditation Centre Perth was established in December 1995 and is now located in East Fremantle. We hold weekly drop-in meditation classes and weekend workshops and retreats which are suitable for beginners, as well as in-depth study programs for people who want to deepen their understanding of Buddha’s teachings.

KMC Perth is a member of the New Kadampa Tradition – International Kadampa Buddhist Union, a global network of over one thousand centres & groups around the world.

What is Modern Buddhism?

We offer a modern presentation of Buddhism that enables people with busy lives to experience deep and lasting happiness.

The instructions given at our classes are grounded in ancient wisdom and have been handed down in an unbroken lineage since the time of Buddha. Revitalised by contemporary Meditation Master, Venerable Geshe Kelsang Gyatso Rinpoche, especially for the people of the modern world, our classes offer practical methods for solving the real-world problems we face, as well as scientific methods for improving our human nature and qualities through developing the capacity of our mind.

Our Resident Teacher

Kelsang Tara is a fully ordained Australian Buddhist nun and the Resident Teacher of Kadampa Meditation Centre Perth.

Tara has been studying and practising Kadampa Buddhism for many years, and ordained as a Buddhist nun in 2015. Tara’s inspiring teachings reflect her sincere wish to help those in need and to share her experience of Buddha’s life-changing instructions with others.

Book Shop

We sell the complete range of books written by Venerable Geshe Kelsang Gyatso Rinpoche as well as MP3 guided meditations, and Buddhist images. These are also available online via the Tharpa Publications Australia website. Our gift shop also stocks statues, ritual implements, T-shirts, locally blended tea, incenses, eye pillows, purses, clutches, beauty products, notebooks and handmade pens. All profits are donated to the International Temples Project.

Other On-Site Facilities

The Centre is wheel-chair accessible and also has a bicycle rack and end-of-trip facilities. Please bring your own towel if you would like to use the shower.

If you have difficulty hearing, we have headphones with independent volume control available so that you can comfortably join in with our classes. Make use of a pair in the meditation room, or bring your own over-ear headphones and cable and plug-in!
